Virginia Beach City FC Looks to Turn Around Season with FC Frederick coming into Town

June 09, 2021

NORFOLK, VA. (June 9, 2021) — Believe it or not, there are only four matches remaining in Virginia Beach City FC’s 2021 NPSL regular season. The first of those four remaining matches is Sunday, June 13 vs. FC Frederick at Powhatan Field in Norfolk, Va.

Sunday is the second meeting between the two clubs, as Virginia Beach City FC hopes to earn a season sweep. VB City FC defeated FC Frederick on May 22 by a score of 2-1. That match is City’s only win of the season.

Righting the Ship

Virginia Beach City FC earned four points in three matches to start this season, but the club has dropped their last three matches.

The club's manager, Samuel Barnett, has four matches to turn his debut season around and it starts on Sunday. Earning a series sweep over FC Frederick would go a long way in boosting club morale down the stretch.

Creating Offense

Through six games, Virginia Beach City FC has only scored four goals. Barnett’s midfielders and forwards must get creative to find ways to generate more opportunities. When VB City FC does generate those opportunities, they need to finish.

Back to Normal

Keeper CJ Coulson returned to the pitch in Virginia Beach City FC’s June 6 match vs. Philadelphia Lone Star, but the club still allowed two goals. So far this season, VB City FC has allowed 11 goals and registered no clean sheets.

Coulson and his defenders must find their rhythm again to finish this season. While the attacking players need to score, Coulson and the back line must give Virginia Beach City FC a chance on their end of the pitch.
