Virginia Beach City FC Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With 3-0 Win Over Legacy 76
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (July 1, 2018) — Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, Virginia Beach City FC routed Legacy 76 on Sunday night with a 3-0 win.
VB City FC scored three goals vs. Legacy 76, two of which came in the second half. Prince Idornigie kicked things off in the 25th minute with a score on an assist from Sebastian Refi, giving VB City FC a 1-0 advantage. Refi struck next in the 58th minute for his fifth goal of the season and second in two games. Fernando Lisboa topped it off in the 83rd minute for his first goal of the season.
Sunday was the first win for Virginia Beach City since June 1, when VB City FC defeated Charlottesville Alliance 2-0. VBC now sits in fourth place with 11 points, just two points behind FC Frederick. Despite Sunday's win, VB City FC does not control their own destiny.
Virginia Beach City FC must defeat Northern Virginia United on Saturday, July 7 to have a chance to make the NPSL playoffs. If VB City FC is able to win on Saturday, VB City FC will make the playoffs if Charlottesville Alliance FC defeats FC Frederick on Monday, July 2 and then loses to FC Baltimore on Friday, July 6.
Saturday's match vs. Northern Virginia United is VB City FC's final match of the regular season. Virginia Beach City FC is hoping not just to make the playoffs, but for revenge.
