Virginia Beach City FC Draws With FC Baltimore in Season Rematch
BALTIMORE, MD. (June 9, 2018) — With the Mid-Atlantic Conference Division lead on the line, Virginia Beach City FC and FC Baltimore played to a draw on Saturday night, keeping VB City FC in the top spot.
"Our guys played well tonight," said VBC head coach Brian Hinkey. "We created a lot of chances in the run of play and we defended well. I thought we played well enough to get the win and we missed some good chances in the final moments of the game so we are a little disappointed to walk away with a tie and only one point.
"However, we are improving every game and that’s a great sign for this team."
Sebastian Refi scored VB City FC's only goal on Saturday, striking in the 30th minute to give VB City FC a 1-0 lead. FC Baltimore scored the equalizer in the 66th minute, thanks to FCB's Nate Hall.
Virginia Beach City FC had multiple chances in the second half but failed to finish either one. Denis Roule got the ball in the box in the 66th minute but couldn't get a shot off. Just four minutes later, Tye Stallins missed the go-ahead attempt. VB City FC had chances in the 84th and 87th minutes, but failed to score.
Despite splitting another match, Virginia Beach City FC remains at the top of the table in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Division. VB City FC has eight points through five matches while FC Baltimore has seven points through four matches. In terms of points per match, Northern Virginia United leads the way with six points in just three matches.
Virginia Beach City FC will hit the road once again on Sat., June 16, as the squad takes on Charlottesville Alliance FC at 1 p.m. VB City FC defeated Charlottesville Alliance earlier this season 2-0 and Charlottesville is 2-2-0 this season.
"We will look forward to the next match and will push to put ourselves in playoff contention," Hinkey said. "The division is very tight right now and every point will be important."
