Virginia Beach City FC Women Lose 3-1 on the Road to Richmond Strikers
Richmond, VA (May 19, 2017) – Despite a season-opening draw on the road last weekend, Virginia Beach City FC women fell to the Richmond Strikers WPSL side, 3-1, at Striker Park Friday evening.
The Strikers would open the scoring in the 10th minute off a set piece opportunity that would hand them a 1-0 lead in their home opener.
Alex Davidson of VB City FC would find the equalizer just six minutes later with a strike from 25+ yards out. The goal would be her first on the year.
VB City FC would be undone again by a set piece goal from the Strikers in the 36th minute as the Strikers would take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Pushing for the equalizer in the second half, Richmond would put VB City FC away in the 72nd minute off a third set piece goal on the evening for a 3-1 lead.
All in all, the VB City FC goalkeepers would tally ten saves on the night.
Virginia Beach City FC Head Coach Kevin Smith had this to say postgame: “The Strikers were very dangerous going forward and created a few chances that were difficult to defend. We played with great intensity, but it is clear that we need to improve our fitness levels and technical speed of play.”
Virginia Beach City women head to Fredericksburg next Saturday for their final road game before their home opener the week following. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. against Fredericksburg FC.
