NPSL and WPSL Recaps at Fredericksburg FC
FREDERICKSBURG, VA (May 25, 2017) – Encompassed by multiple weather delays and the match being called early due to lightning, Virginia Beach City FC picked up their first full three points of the season Thursday night, in a 2-1 win over Fredericksburg FC at Mary Washington Stadium in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The first half began with multiple chances for sides but neither were able to convert as both sides went into the halftime locker room scoreless.
Immediately following the opening whistle to the second half, Ryan Condotta of VB City FC would catch the Fredericksburg goalkeeper sleeping blasting a midfield strike into goal to open the scoring.
That goal gave momentum to the road team going forward as they looked to score another.
Virginia Beach would find that second goal just ten minutes later in the 56th minute, as Ty Collins linked up for some great combination play in the box and slotted home another goal past the keeper with his left-footed effort to double the lead 2-0 in favor of Virginia Beach City FC.
Following the second goal, Frederickburg would put VB City FC under heavy pressure as the 2-0 deficit forced them to chase the game.
Their effort paid off in the 70th minute as they earned a penalty kick, which was converted to make it 2-1.
The referees decided in the 78th minute to call the match 2-1 in favor of Virginia Beach City FC due to inclement weather that didn’t look to let up anytime soon.
Head Coach Brian Hinkey – “I'm happy with our performance tonight. It's a big three points on the road. We played very well through the midfield and created a lot of chances with quality combination play. I'm proud of the effort we put in tonight and am looking forward to opening at home on Saturday. We have an exciting team to watch and we're carrying some good momentum into next week.”
The win is VB City FC’s first on the year as they look ahead to next weekend’s home opener on June 3rd at VB Sportsplex Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

VB City FC Women lost their second straight road result Thursday, 1-0 off a 42nd minute goal by Fredericksburg FC.
With a delay to begin the match, most of the match would be played out in the rain as VB City FC struggled to put any shots on target throughout the match.
“Women played well defensively, led by our backs, Jaclyn Stroud, Chloe Obara, Allyson Giannone, and Savyon Hammond and goalkeeper Caitlin Dorsch.
