CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (June 15, 2019) — The hottest team in the NPSL continued their run of good play on Friday, as Virginia Beach City FC picked up another three points in a 2-0 shutout win over Charlottesville Alliance FC.

"I thought it was a great match for us tonight," said Virginia Beach City FC head coach Brian Hinkey. "Having to drive away to Charlottesville, it's always a test. It was our second road game in a row and to come out with a 2-0 win and three points is huge for this club, huge for this team and huge for this organization."

Two different players scored for VB City FC — Kalique Lawrence in the 27th minute and Ezana Kahsay in the 90th minute. Friday was Lawrence's first start for VB City FC, and his performance earned him Man of the Match.

Kahsay's goal was his fifth goal of the season. Kahsay now has five goals in each of VB City FC's five NPSL matches.

Virginia Beach City FC's defense was stout once again, allowing just five shots. Only three of those five were on goal, and Friday was the fourth shutout in a row for keeper CJ Coulson.

Virginia Beach City FC holds a commanding lead in the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Division Conference. VB City FC now holds 16 points with a 4-0-1 record, and leads second-place FC Baltimore by nine points. Virginia Beach City FC hosts FC Baltimore on Sun., June 16 at 7 p.m. in a crucial divisional matchup. "We've got some tired legs, so we've got to make sure we take care of our bodies and we're right into FC Baltimore. If we can get six points this weekend, that's a huge run for us and that's been the goal."
