Late Game Comeback Cannot be Replicated as Virginia Beach City FC Drops 3 Points
NORFOLK, Va. (May 16, 2021) — After clawing their way back to a draw on Saturday night in the season opener, Virginia Beach City FC dropped their first game of the season to Philadelphia Lone Star at VB City FC’s training facility, Norfolk Collegiate School.
VB City FC’s attack generated several scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize. Samuel Barnett’s squad took 10 shots against Philadelphia Lone Star, six of which were on goal. Unfortunately, none of those shots made it through.
Once again, the defense turned in a solid outing. Keeper and 2019 NPSL Golden Glove award winner CJ Coulson made four saves and organized the boys in front of him to fend off eight corner kicks. Coulson’s only goal allowed came on a one-on-one situation in the 56th minute.
Sunday’s match was a far more physical and hard-fought match than Saturday’s affair, likely a result of the two teams playing each other on such a short turnaround. Eight cards were issued between the two teams, including two yellows for VB City FC midfielder Cesar Garvacio. His disqualification on Sunday means he will be ineligible in VB City FC’s next match.
That match comes on Saturday, May 22 as Virginia Beach City FC travels north to face longtime NPSL opponents FC Frederick. VB City FC’s road trip lasts just one week, as the boys return to Powhatan Field to face FC Baltimore Christos on May 29. Tickets to that match, as well as all other VB City FC home matches can be purchased online at Virginia Beach City FC’s website.
