Northern Virginia United close to securing NPSL playoff bid
With just a few matches remaining in the NPSL regular season, Northern Virginia United sits in prime position to make the NPSL playoffs. NVU is now first in the Mid-Atlantic Division and sits six points ahead of both FC Frederick and Charlottesville Alliance FC, who are tied for third.
Nothern Virginia is hot at the moment and cruised to a 4-0 win over Legacy 76 on Wednesday night.
Legacy 76 pushing for strong finish to poor season
It's been a season to forget for Legacy 76. Legacy sits in last place of the Mid-Atlantic Division and has a goal differential of minus-22. Legacy 76 is well out of the playoff discussion and will be only be playing for pride on Sunday.
Now or never for VB City FC
Virginia Beach City FC still has a chance to make the NPSL playoffs this season, but needs to win at least two, if not all three, of their remaining matches. VBC has eight points this season in the Mid-Atlantic Division and is just two points behind Frederick FC and Charlottesville Alliance FC. Virginia Beach City FC hasn't won a match since June 1, so VBC desperately needs to turn things around.
VBC's backline vs. NVU's forwards — Virginia Beach City FC's defense has played well for most of this season, but last weekend's defeat was discouraging. VBC allowed three goals vs. Frederick FC and allowed too many shots on goal. VBC's backline needs to find their form once again.
VBC's forwards vs. Legacy 76's defense — Virginia Beach City FC demolished Legacy earlier this season, winning 4-1 to open the 2018 season. Legacy 76 has allowed a division-worst 28 goals this season and Sunday should present a promising opportunity for VBC's offense.
