Know Your Opponent: FC Frederick | 6.2.19
NORFOLK, Va. (May 28, 2019) — The NPSL National Game of the Week is taking place in Hampton Roads, as Virginia Beach City FC is set to host FC Frederick in one of the most important contests of the season.
VB City FC sits in great position in the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference Division, holding four points. VB City FC is one of only two clubs in the division to win a match this season, and a win vs. FC Frederick would give VB City FC a comfortable cushion to fall back on.
VB City FC comes into Sunday's match with plenty of momentum. After defeating Charlottesville Alliance FC in the club's first home game at Powhatan Field, VB City FC played DC United's U-23 to a tough 1-1 draw. Sunday's match will be the third of three straight home matches for Virginia Beach City FC.
Getting Back on Track
FC Frederick was one of the best teams in the NPSL last season. Not only did they win the Mid-Atlantic Conference Division in 2018, they advanced to the regional semifinals before falling to NY Cosmos.
However, FC Frederick's first two matches this season resulted in a 1-1 draw with Charlottesville Alliance FC, whom VB City FC has already beaten this season and a 5-0 loss vs Northern Virginia United.
VB City FC's forwards vs. FC Frederick's backline — The VB City FC attack has been about as balanced as one could ask for. VB City FC's four goals this season have come from three different players, with Ezana Kahsay leading the club with two scores. As balanced as they've been, they need to put their foot down in the second half and finish FC Frederick before they break through.
Virginia Beach City FC won't return to Powhatan Field until June 16, so be sure to buy your tickets to see the club before they hit the road. And remember, it's the NPSL National Game of the Week. The Pregame fan festival starts at 5 p.m.; kick off will follow at 7 p.m.
