Know Your Opponent: Charlottesville Alliance FC | 6.14.19
NORFOLK, Va. (June 10, 2019) — Virginia Beach City FC’s NPSL campaign continues this weekend, as VB City FC plays two matches in three days. The first of those two matches will be in central Virginia at Charlottesville Alliance FC.
Building on Success
Virginia Beach City FC is one of the hottest teams in the NPSL at the moment, winning their last three NPSL matches. Their goal differential in those three matches is 7-0.
VB City FC’s pace and depth at forward has been their biggest strength. They’ve outlasted their last two opponents, scoring four of their five goals in the second half. AJ Wadda gave VB City FC the edge over Northern Virginia United on June 8, scoring in the 87th minute.
As of June 10, VB City FC holds a commanding lead in the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Division. Virginia Beach City FC sits atop the table with 10 points, four ahead of Northern Virginia United and six points ahead of FC Baltimore and Charlottesville Alliance FC.
Making a Run
Charlottesville Alliance FC lost to VB City FC earlier this season, falling 2-0 at Powhatan Field. Since then, CVille Alliance FC has won, lost and played to a draw, earning four points in three matches.
However, a win for CVille Alliance FC would put them well in contention for the regular season division title. CVille Alliance FC plays VB City FC and FC Frederick this weekend, and four or more points out of those two matches would give them a chance down the stretch. CVille Alliance FC’s Friday night match vs. VB City FC will be the first of three consecutive games at home for Charlottesville Alliance FC.
VB City FC’s forwards vs. CVille Alliance FC’s backline — Virginia Beach City FC’s attack has been well documented, but VB City FC’s offense netted just one score in their last match. VB City FC only created two shots on goal in the matchup, well below the team’s average for the season. VB City FC scored twice against Charlottesville Alliance FC earlier this season, and there’s no reason to believe the offense won’t get back on track in this match.
