Frederick, MD (June 24, 2017) – Virginia Beach City FC grabbed a crucial three points on the road Saturday over FC Frederick in a 1-0 victory to move into first place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

“I’m proud of the effort tonight because that was some performance,” Head Coach Brian Hinkey said after the win. “To come away with three points on the road against the first place team is huge for us.”

The match provided some lively soccer with each side with their fair share of opportunities on goal in the first half.

VB City FC scored the eventual game-winner in the 34th minute as Pace knocked home the easy tap in.

The lead nearly doubled for VB City FC three minutes later off a volley that almost snuck past the FC Frederick goalkeeper.

FC Frederick came out strong in the second half pushing for an equalizer in front of their home fans but the Virginia Beach City defense would hold strong.

VB City FC was also helped by an offsides call in the 81st minute that looked to be the equalizer but the flag was up and would remain the final chance of the match for either side sealing the road result.

“We showed a lot of grit and determination and we will carry that mentality into our next regular season match.” Hinkey said.

Sharief Stancil’s two starts for Virginia Beach City FC have both been clean sheets.

Virginia Beach City FC will enter the final matchday of the regular season in prime position to qualify for the NPSL playoffs with a return visit on July 9 to VB Sportsplex for FC Frederick.
