Father’s Day Offers Two Exciting Draws at VB Sportsplex Stadium
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (June 18, 2017) – Virginia Beach City FC NPSL and WPSL sides each played Fathers Day matches at VB Sportsplex Stadium that both ended in 0-0 draws against Fredericksburg FC.
With a Fredericksburg FC side that looked to exact revenge against VB City FC, Coach Hinkley had his side prepared to start on the right foot Sunday at VB Sportsplex Stadium.
“It was a good match. We were unfortunate not to put one away, but proud of the effort the team put in tonight,” – Coach Hinkley
The first half went much of VB City FC’s way accumulating a number of shots in the first 15 minutes, testing the FFC goalkeeper but no goals came of their efforts.
The 2nd half possessed much of the same as VB City FC’s Condotta nearly put in a flying scissor kick of a goal to open the scoring but his efforts sailed just high above the crossbar.
Two massive clearances in the 71st and 79th minutes by Bremus kept FFC off the board entering the finals ten minutes of the match.
VB City FC’s last-remaining shot on goal came in the 85th minute from the foot of Hornigie forcing a fingertip save by FFC’s goalkeeper to preserve the clean sheet and vital point going into the final two regular season matches.
“We played well defensively throughout and we set ourselves up for success. The hallmarks of our team are energy, commitment, and passion and we displayed that tonight,” – Hinkey said.
Virginia Beach City FC remains unbeaten with a 1-0-3 record setting up an all-important away matchup next Saturday at FC Frederick for a tie of first place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
“We will build from this result and look forward to our final two regular season matches.” – stated Hinkey.

Virginia Beach City FC WPSL side battled to a 0-0 draw Sunday against Fredericksburg FC women.
Much of the first half was played in the midfield with neither side breaking through early.
Despite the 90-degree heat, both sides made good use of their substitutions, which started to pay off in the second half.
Three chances were cleared away by the FCC backline in the first fifteen minutes of the second half.
As the game grew longer, FCC saw their handful of chances, especially in the 75th minute, but a Kelly Hogan stifled the shot to keep things scoreless.
In extra-time, VB City nearly captured all three points via a rocket of a shot, which forced a game-saving save to preserve the tie.
"It was an exciting draw with lots of shots, but even better defense. A hard fought point as the game was physical throughout" – Coach Kevin Smith
The point proved important for the moral of the side after dropping an early season match to FCC.
