Christian Coulson Named 2019 NPSL Golden Glove Winner
NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 9, 2019) — Virginia Beach City keeper Christian "CJ" Coulson put together one of the best individual performances in club history over the 2019 season. His hard work was rewarded by the NPSL, who named Coulson the 2019 Golden Glover winner and a member of the NPSL Starting XI.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound keeper from Portsmouth, Va. was Virginia Beach City FC's most important player this season, totaling 32 saves and just five goals allowed in eight games of play.
"The award itself is a really cool individual achievement, probably the top of the list in my career," Coulson said. "That being said, the credit can't be all mine. I’ve got to thank the 10 guys playing in front of me week in and week out, the coaches, the media team for getting us the publicity, and obviously all of the fans, friends, and family that took their time to vote."
Coulson's career began at Old Dominion University, where the Monarchs were two-time Conference USA champions and made the second round of the NCAA Tournament twice. Coulson was a four-time All-District member in high school and signed with Virginia Beach City FC out of college.
Virginia Beach City FC was one of the premier teams in the NPSL this season, finishing with a record of 6-1-1. VB City FC finished in a tie for first in the NPSL's Mid-Atlantic division and lost to FC Baltimore in the divisional championship.
