FC Baltimore Pushes Past Virginia Beach City FC in Extra Time to Win NPSL Mid-Atlantic Title
ESSEX, MD. (July 6, 2019) — Virginia Beach City FC fell just short of their ultimate goal this season, losing to FC Baltimore Christos 1-0 in extra time in the NPSL's Mid-Atlantic Conference Championship.
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw through regulation, but FC Baltimore's Jonathan Bell scored in the 92nd minute to give FC Baltimore a 1-0 lead. VB City FC created several scoring opportunities after giving up the advantage, but failed to convert.
Keeper CJ Coulson kept his team in the match all night long. Coulson fended off nine shots on goal and was peppered with another five that were off the mark. Coulson's performance earned him Man of the Match. Coulson allowed just five goals in his nine NPSL matches this season.
The VB City FC attack pressured for the entire game but could never break through. Trevor Knight created a team-high five shots, while leading scorer Ezana Kahsay shot twice. As a team, VB City FC created 12 shots.
Saturday's defeat was the end of a tremendous season for Virginia Beach City FC. The club finished the season 6-2-1 and played its first season at Powhatan Field at Old Dominion University.
