Virginia Beach City FC Schedules Two Friendlies vs. DC United for 2019 Season

March 11, 2019

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 11, 2019) — Virginia Beach City FC and DC United are teaming up once again in 2019, agreeing to play two friendlies between VB City FC’s professional squad and DC United’s U-23 team.

DC United’s U-23 team will travel to Powhatan Field on May 22 at 7 p.m. to take on Virginia Beach City FC, while VB City FC will travel to our nation’s capital on June 26 at 1 p.m. The friendlies will be the third and fourth meetings between the two clubs and will be the first time the clubs face each other twice in one season.

Virginia Beach City FC head coach and vice president of soccer operations Brian Hinkey spoke about the partnership between the two clubs in their friendly last season.

“I think it’s a win-win situation for DC United and Virginia Beach City,” Hinkey said. “I think there’s a lot of quality players that are coming out of this area. We’ve already seen some of our youth players get opportunities in their youth development academy, and there isn’t one here in Hampton Roads. Ultimately, what I want to see is players getting the opportunities to reach the highest levels of the game. In the United States, that’s the MLS so naturally, we want to be affiliated with something at that level.”

Friendly matches are just part of the strategic alliance between VB City FC and DC United. Virginia Beach City FC has already hosted two DC United Talent Centers and multiple VB City FC academy players have already joined DC United’s academy for training and tournaments.

VB City FC’s friendlies with DC United add onto VB City FC’s 2019 NPSL slate, which was announced recently. You can buy season tickets to any of VB City FC’s home matches HERE. The full schedule can be seen below.
