VB City FC Fights Through Tough Weather for 1-1 Draw vs. FC Frederick
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA (May 27, 2018) – After an hour and a half thunderstorm delay, Virginia Beach City FC played FC Frederick to a 1-1 draw on Sunday night at Thomas Athletic Field.
"The conditions of the game were difficult today with traveling on a holiday weekend and then weather delays," said Virginia Beach City FC head coach Brian Hinkey. "Despite that, we put in a good team effort. We still have many details we need to refine so happy to get a point on the road."
Prince Idornigie, who won the 2017 NPSL Goal of the year, led the way for VB City FC by scoring his team’s only goal in the 23rd minute to give VBC a 1-0 advantage. Kareem Gharbi was credited with the assist.
Virginia Beach City FC held the lead until the 71st minute when FC Frederick’s Shawn Baker scored on an assist from William Eskay. VB City FC goalie Christian Coulson was solid outside of that goal, making five saves in Sunday night's match.
Thanks to solid defense down the stretch, Virginia Beach City FC was still able to secure their fourth point of the season. VBC is now 1-1-1 and has two home matches next weekend. Charlottesville Alliance FC will travel to the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on Friday, June 1 and DC United’s U-23 squad on Sunday, June 3. Tickets to both matches can be bought here.
"I think we will continue to improve and are looking forward to being at home for the match Friday," Hinkey said. "We have a lot of new players this year acclimating to our system and I look forward to when it all clicks as we have good quality players."
