VB City FC News
Virginia Beach City FC returns home for the second week in a row to face off against rivals Northern Virginia United to conclude the 2022 regular season. Virginia Beach City FC has already clinched their place in the post season and has been vying for a home field advantage spot for the last two games. This final third game can clinch home field in the conference semi-final with a flat-out win. Virginia Beach City FC were in position to host for all of four days (sitting in second place) before the Northern Virginia rout over Alexandria Reds 4-1 this past Wednesday. Having played NoVA recently, the home boys know who they’re up against and know NVU will not make it easy for them.
“We are just trying to find those 2v1’s; just trying to find numbers in transition and getting numbers behind the ball quickly. NoVA, they’re good at transitioning and they like to play the direct ball,” analyzed second-year VB City FC man Alexander Moody.
“We’ve been working on finishing our chances so hopefully we do on match day as well,” Mikael Ndjoli said backing up Moody’s statement.
“We’ve been working on it in training so I think we will be able get the job done on Saturday.”
Giving up the late goal was tough in the first meeting between these two sides this year. But this match has a little more significance, and the guys are focused more on our own goals.
“There’s more to play for,” Moody explained. “Not just proving we’re the better team but just making sure we get that homefield advantage.”
Star Forward Mikael Ndjoli recounted the last match against NVU, remembering that: “I think we know it wasn’t our best game when we played them away.”
But he’s optimistic the result will be different this time.
“We’ve worked on a lot of things since that day in training, so I’m confident we’ll get the three points.”
The guys on the roster rely on you, the fans, for your support. Depending on Saturday’s events in our match and Alexandria’s match versus First State FC, this could be the last home match of the year.
“The support fuels us. We get the one goal and we get the momentum of the fans involved, everyone starts cheering and building us up; we get the support to get the second goal,” Moody said trying to motivate the fans to create an amazing atmosphere.
As mentioned before, there’s still potential VB City FC misses their chance to host in the semi’s. But the guys promise if that’s how the cookie crumbles, the guys have everything they need to pick up the pieces.
“Even if things don’t go our way, we’ve been good on the road as well. We won in Alexandria. We drew a team in Delaware when we were looking pretty thin at depth,” gloated Moody.
“Of course we want to play at home. But I think we have a confident team, a confident squad. If we still need to go away, we can still win., “Ndjoli seconded.
Northern Virginia United Notes
Northern Virginia United are entering the same match with the same goals as VB City. Both teams are well alive for the first or second seeds. The best-case scenario for NoVA is that they get a result against us (win or draw) and Alexandria loses to First State FC in Delaware. This would see them finish with 20 or 22 points, Alexandria with 19 and Virginia Beach City FC with 18 points. This result would see Virginia Beach City FC finish third and travel instead of host on the 13th. Virginia Beach City FC’s best-case scenario would be to win at home on Saturday (that would secure at least the 2nd seed) and Alexandria loses in Wilmington (that result would have Virginia Beach City FC finish top of the table.) Alexandria Reds hold their own fate in their hands. A win or a draw would secure them homefield advantage for the semi-finals. We can not wait to see how it all plays out!
