VB City FC News
Virginia Beach City FC returns home after last weekend’s two game road trek which saw the Blue Boys secure their spot in the Conference Post-Season with their victory over first place Alexandria Reds. That match was scored by team leading goal scorer Sheriff Secka in the 9th minute of a 10 minute stoppage time call by the referees.
“Secka is a proven goal scorer with us. I’m glad to see he is getting back to the form that he ended last season in,” Assistant Coach Jimmy McCabe recognized about his star Forward.
Sheriff Secka in his two seasons with Virginia Beach City FC has been converting goals at an exceptional rate as he has officially scored 11 goals in 13 appearances for the club.
Virginia Beach City FC will now enjoy the final two weeks of the regular season at home as their focus shifts to how they can secure home field advantage against a prospective 3rd or 4th seed; Virginia Beach City FC currently sits in 3rd place which would see them travel should the regular season end today.
“The idea for the rest of the season is to make sure we do our best to secure the six points that are available for us to get. This would put us in the best possible position to hopefully host a playoff match,” explained McCabe.
“We are gonna work on finishing to make sure we are finishing teams off earlier instead of allowing teams get back into the game, especially late,” he as he reiterated the idea it’s a job well done to qualify but the job isn’t done yet.
Having the final two matches at home affords VB City FC players comfortability in many facets of the game.
“The boys definitely enjoy being at home; the two big things being the fans and the second is the ability to be better prepared. We don’t have to drive the three or four hours, sitting in traffic, couped up in a van,” said McCabe as he ran through the differences of being at home and away in this league.
“Being at home allows us to get to the field and get the words in that we need, allows us to be a little more loose and stretched properly for the game. That’s opposed to being away where it’s a mad rush to get ready and through warm-ups, straight into the match and straight back into the vans and back home. It just gives us a more comfortable gameday overall,” he concluded.
As previously mentioned, Frederick is the only club to have collected a full three points towards the standings when they’ve come against us so far this season. But the team and staff aren’t so much focused on the team they’re playing as much as they are on fixing the mistakes that cost them the first showdown.
“I think the idea for this match is that this is a rematch of a game where we let up a really silly goal early in the first few minutes and we gave up another questionable goal at the death of the match. Aside from those two goals, there really wasn’t a whole lot between us. We just didn’t create enough of our own chances to compete in the end,” recounted McCabe.
“I think the big difference this time is going to be that we are going to have a few guys that were not available that previous weekend and a few guys that have come in since then and have been putting up great numbers and great minutes,” the second year Assistant chimed in.
It will indeed be 4th of July weekend, the team is expecting to create a fun and rememberable experience for the fans that will be in attendance.
“We look forward to having the fans come out and support us before the national holiday. It’s a big three day weekend for a lot of people so we are anticipating having people come out Saturday night, barbeque on Sunday, and enjoy the holiday on Monday,” McCabe promoted.
FC Frederick Notes
FC Frederick has won just two other games aside from their previous win against Virginia Beach City FC; against Grove United where they put the newcomers to sleep 4-0 and through a dual against First State FC in a 4-3 final score.
