Kahsay Scores Seventh Goal to Push Virginia Beach City FC Past FC Frederick
IJAMSVILLE, Md. (June 24, 2019) — Star forward Ezana Kahsay pushed Virginia Beach City FC over the top on Saturday night, giving VB City FC a 2-1 win over FC Frederick in a pivotal matchup in the NPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference.
Kahsay’s goal came in the 81st minute, coming off an assist from substitute Tyequis Stallins. Kahsay has now scored a goal in each of VB City FC’s seven NPSL matches which ties him for 2nd in goals scored in the NPSL Northeast Region.
Saturday’s match was a roller coaster, as both teams received red cards in the first half. FC Frederick played the entire match with 10 men after Alex Lee punched VB City FC’s William Cooke in the first minute. Virginia Beach City FC captain Prince Idornigie was handed a red card in the 42nd minute after denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Preston Bremus kicked off the scoring for VB City FC, heading in an assist from Robby Dambrot in the fourth minute. It was Bremus’ first goal of the season and the fourth time Virginia Beach City FC has scored in the first 12 minutes of a match.
FC Frederick scored in the 17th minute and the two sides played close through halftime. Stallins subbed in at the 78th minute and immediately began creating chaos for FC Frederick. Stallins created the game-winning opportunity for Kahsay, earning himself Man of the Match.
Virginia Beach City is now 5-1-1 this season and has 16 points, which gives VB City FC sole possession of first in the conference. FC Baltimore, who holds the tiebreaker over VB City FC, has a tough schedule coming up, with two games in two days. FC Baltimore takes on FC Frederick on June 28 and Charlottesville Alliance FC on June 29. Virginia Beach City FC has just one NPSL regular season match remaining, with Northern Virginia United coming to Powhatan Stadium on June 29.
However, before VB City FC takes on Northern Virginia United, the side will travel to our nation’s capital to take on DC United’s U-23 team in their second friendly of the season.
