May 12, 2019

BALTIMORE
, MD. (May 12, 2019) — Virginia Beach City FC embarked on its first season as a professional team on Saturday, playing FC Baltimore to a 1-1 draw.

Ezana Kahsay, making his VB City FC debut, kicked off the scoring in the first minute. Kahsay scored just 13 seconds in, the quickest goal in VB City FC history.

VB City FC dominated the remainder of the first half but failed to put another goal on the scoreboard. After the 45-minute mark, FC Baltimore picked up the pace and got off five shots and earned nine corner kicks.

VB City FC goalkeeper Christian "CJ" Coulson fended off shot after shot in the second half, earning VB City's Man of the Match award. FC Baltimore finally broke through in the 84th minute as Nick Gumbs tied the score at 1-1. Neither team would score in the final minutes.

Though Kahsay was making his VB City FC debut, he's an NPSL veteran. The former Akron University standout also played for Erie Commodores FC and led the team to a NPSL Midwest Region - East Conference Title in 2017.

Kahsay started at forward alongside VB City FC veteran Trevor Knight and Chris Cooke. Jesse Miralrio and Cesar Gervacio also made their VB City FC debuts in the midfield alongside captain Prince Idornigie. Jordi Davis, Tyler Smith, Ryan McLaughlin, Robby Dambrot rounded out the backline.

VB City FC will start their home schedule on May 18 vs. Charlottesville Alliance FC at Powhatan Field. The match will start at 7 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase HERE.
