VB City FC End 2016 Season With 2-1 Comeback Win
VB City FC brought in their last victory of the season Sunday night with a 2-1 win over ASA Charge. Captain Tyler Cyrus saved the day with his last minute goal, bringing the packed crowd at the Sportsplex to a roar!
Chris Albiston earned the first shot in the opening three minutes of play, sending the ball just wide of the far post. The Neptune's were hungry in the box early-on with several opportunities on goal.
Ivan Militar was a menace coming inside from the wing, but he couldn't find the back of the net on two first half chances. The Szeged, Hungary native found the end of a pass only to hit the cross bar, for the second true opportunity of the match. Minutes later he found the ball at his feet once again, drilling it into the ASA Charge's keeper.
The Charge were the first on the board in the 26th minute, sending the ball past Mark Nankervis into the far post for a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
The lead wouldn't last long as the home side earned a penalty shortly after the break in action. Ryan Condotta stepped up to the spot and converted with a well-composed finish to the bottom corner. ASA would immeditialy look to respond moments later, but defender Johan De picker was there to make a goal-line clearance, maintaining the 1-1 score.
The final minutes of play saw a number of fouls and cards from both sides. Undeterred by the chippy play, Tyler Cyrus pushed forward in attack and netted the match-winner in the 90th minute. The captain made a move from the left side of the box before slotting home his strike into the far corner.
On the women's side of competition, the VB City ladies took advantage of a powerless, seven member ASA Charge Women for a 3-0 victory. The ladies scored all three goals in the first half of play for their second win of the season.
