Supersub Magic from Secka Helps in Home Finale Draw
NORFOLK, Va. (June 19, 2021) – Sheriff Secka scored his third goal in three straight games, this one coming off the bench, on Saturday as Virginia Beach City FC played Northern Virginia United to a 1-1 tie at Powhatan Field.
Secka, in his debut season with Virginia Beach City FC, scored on an assist by May 2021 NPSL Team of the Week member, Preston Bremus. The 80th-minute goal pushed VB City FC ahead 1-0.
VB City FC’s strong defensive performance lasted the entirety of the match. Man of the Match Zach Johnson and the back line played exceptional defense and kept keeper CJ Coulson clean for most of the day. Northern Virginia United’s lone goal came on a controversial awarded penalty in stoppage time on a 'handball' inside the box off a free kick. Northern Virginia United's Bardia Kimiavi put the penalty in the net for the equalizer.
Virginia Beach City FC has earned four points in their last two matches, rebounding from a three-match losing streak. VB City FC’s stretch of good play comes with several of the team’s regulars unavailable due to injury. Jordi Davis, Trevor Knight and AJ Wadda all missed Saturday’s match.
Saturday’s match was the home finale for VB City FC, but two matches remain on schedule for the regular season. VB City FC travels north again to face FC Baltimore Christos on June 26, hoping to avenge the club’s two defeats to Christos earlier this season. Virginia Beach City FC can keep their NPSL playoff hopes alive with a win.
