VB City FC News

Virginia Beach City FC is seeing a slow start to the season as the club enters the weekend with a 0-1-1 record on the season. Head Coach Stephane Thys’ fiery response to the 90th minute loss last week results in a new vision tactically for the club. Thys knows his team is capable of much more than has been presented thus far in 2022 and anticipates making the appropriate changes to better suit the players on the roster.

“I don’t really want to come back to what happened in the last week,” said Thys, “it was 4 to 4 and a half hours away and very hot. It’s sad because the two goals, we gave them away,” Thys elaborated.

The focus in training going into this week was to sharpen the attack and to capitalize on the opportunities the team creates. Thys hammered away the concept on Monday as the entirety of the offense spent the whole session training on various shooting drills that replicate in-game scenarios.

“We need to be dangerous and not by mistake. This week I want to work on the finishing and the connection between the midfield and the striker,” Thys explained. “If we strike, we do not lose. It was the same against Alexandria. If we were striking, we would have won.”

Coach Thys’ plan to bounce back involves a tactical shift to the lineup.

“I already have a plan. Maybe we come out with something new this week. We will see,” he hinted.

With the trip to Richmond being the shortest trip for the team this season, the club hopes to see some blue in the crowd for the match in Richmond.

“We need the fans to come support. Over there [Frederick], there were no fans [VB City Supporters] and the players like to play when the fans are here. So you know, when you feel your city has your back, the players will play better.”

Lastly, Thys wanted to close the book on the stunning loss from the past week by vowing the team will not disappoint again.

“We will not disappoint you anymore. We can not. We are sorry for last week. It will not happen anymore.”
