May 13, 2018

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (May 13, 2018)After kicking off the 2018 season with a 4-1 win over Legacy 76, Virginia Beach City FC will host FC Baltimore in VB City FC’s home opener at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on May 19 at 7 p.m.

Refi kicks off 2018 season with a bang

Virginia Beach City FC forward Sebastian Refi dominated Legacy 76 last Saturday night, scoring two first-half goals. Refi, who played for VB City FC last season as well, was named Man of the Match for his season-opening performance and could spark more fireworks on Saturday night.

FCB starts 2018 with loss to DC United’s U-23 squad

FC Baltimore is in their first season of play in 2018 and got off to a slow start on May 11, as DC United’s U-23 team knocked off FCB 1-0.

Key Matchup

Lucas Mendes vs. VBC’s Defense — FC Baltimore may be in their first season but they’ve got a star player in the lineup. Lucas Mendes signed with FC Baltimore in March 2018 and brings tons of accolades, namely winning the Gatorade High School National Player of the Year Award in 2016. Mendes played his high school ball just outside of Washington D.C. and was an NSCAA Club All-American in 2015.

Mendes is surely a talented player, but VB City FC’s defense is in good form. Virginia Beach City FC defended well in their season-opener vs. Legacy 76, allowing just one goal and holding Legacy’s possession time to 35 percent.

Virginia Beach City FC’s Projected Starting XI:

GK Christian Coulson

CB Fernando Lisboa

CB Tyler Cyrus

LB Skylar Haagan

RB Kelly Walters

M Jordy Davis

M Ryan Condotta

M Kareem Gharbi

F Dennis Roule

F Trevor Knight

F Sebastian Refi

Keys to the Game

Virginia Beach City FC is coming off a dominant performance on Saturday and will need another one vs. FC Baltimore. Though FC Baltimore is new and still finding their way, defending Lucas Mendes could prove difficult. If VBC can keep Mendes contained and find a way to get Sebastian Refi a few opportunities, VB City FC should walk away from this Saturday’s match with another win.
