Know Your Opponent: Legacy 76 | 5/12 | VB City FC
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (May 7, 2018) — Virginia Beach City FC will open their regular season facing the same team that halted their 2017 undefeated season, Legacy 76, in Saturday's NPSL Regular Season Opener at 7 p.m. at Wanner Stadium.
The two sides were polar opposites in 2017. Virginia Beach City FC went undefeated in regular season play with three wins and three ties and allowed the least amount of goals with four. Legacy, on the other hand, lost three matches, tied three matches and allowed 13 goals, the most in NPSL Mid-Atlantic regular season play. Ultimately, the two sides met in the first round of the playoffs where Virginia Beach City FC's magical season ended in defeat. Legacy 76 went on to be crowned as NPSL Mid-Atlantic Champions shortly after their win over Virginia Beach City FC.
Both have made key additions in the off-season and Saturday will be the first test of the true identity of each going into 2018.
Sharief Stancil vs. Jimmy Grace — Former Team of the Week member Sharief Stancil is looking for redemption after allowing three goals vs. Grace at the end of last season, the only goals he allowed all year long. Stancil is hoping to return to his strong regular season form in 2018 as Stancil tries to spark the team through strong goal keeping.
Keys to the Game
The biggest factor for Virginia Beach City FC this weekend will be starting strong and being mentally prepared for their NPSL campaign. Virginia Beach City FC is coming off an undefeated regular season and hopes to continue that streak by defeating the same team that knocked them out the 2017 playoffs, but old wounds could call for uncharacteristic play. If they can conquer the mental aspect and continue to build chemistry on the field, while defending Legacy 76's deadly attack, they will be able to take home a victory.
Virginia Beach City FC Ladies will also face Legacy 76 on May 12th at 5 PM.
