A MESSAGE FROM STEVEN WAGONER, VB CITY FC TEAM PRESIDENT
NORFOLK, Va (Mar. 26, 2020) — Dear Hampton Roads Soccer Community,
We hope this message finds you and your family members safe and healthy.
Effective March 25, 2020, the NPSL Board of Directors unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 NPSL season under its current competition structure due to the health risks of COVID-19.
The NPSL Board of Directors has been in constant communication and has been working together with USASA and US Soccer on ways to best handle this situation. As a representative of the NPSL Executive Committee and Board of Directors, this decision was not taken lightly. We understand that every team in our league is different and has its own set of circumstances. The most important factor in this decision was to keep our fans, families, players, staff, and coaches safe during these unprecedented times.
The NPSL will continue to formulate plans to keep the league relevant and to help us keep our club active in our community. We plan to follow suit during this period.
If the COVID-19 situation subsides quickly and an opportunity to play in the summer arises, the NPSL will work to formulate a customized competition structure that can get us back on the field.
Virginia Beach City FC has been fortunate to compete in the NPSL for six seasons due to continued support of the Hampton Roads soccer community and fans.
We are so thankful for your support and are hopeful to get back on the field in a safe environment for our fans to enjoy high-level soccer as soon as possible.
Our front office will remain open virtually. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Steven A. Wagoner
